Moving out of Singapore with pets is so easy
Whether you are moving with family, work needs or personal, we understand that you are very concerned about taking your pet to start a new life. It is not a simple matter to go abroad with pets across provinces. It is necessary to organize the process and destination entry requirements in advance. There are many complicating factors, such as small animal check-in places on the flight, immunization certificates, quarantine regulations, air box requirements, timing and boarding…it can be a daunting task for any pet owner.
Remember: moving abroad with pets is not a last-minute plan. There is inevitably a lot of work to be done when planning an international move, in addition to dealing with relocation-related things, but also implementing all the steps necessary to bring a pet.
Schedule
Two months before moving
- Carefully research the pet entry laws of your destination country. Make sure your pet is of an allowed species.
- Some countries require that pets must be implanted with an electronic chip that meets international standards, and the chip number should be indicated in all vaccination or treatment records.
- Prepare a valid rabies vaccine health certificate. Most countries require pets to be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days before entry and within one year.
One month before moving
- Apply for an import permit/pet passport.
- Find a reliable pet hospital in your destination country.
Two weeks before moving
- Treat your dog for tapeworms.
- Schedule flights, book pet tickets.
- Go to the local Entry-Exit Quarantine Bureau to apply for the “Health Certificate”. The certificate must be stamped by the government department and signed by the veterinarian. The date of issuance must be within two weeks before the date of entry. At the same time, you need to obtain a “Customs Clearance Form for Outbound Cargo”, which will be handed over to the airport customs.
- When it comes to caring for pets, you’ll want to familiarize them with their air crate, open the crate door, and put some of their toys inside. Put snacks in every day and end up with their dinner plates in the open flight case. Soon they will be eating in closed airboxes.
One week before moving
Apply for a health check certificate. Generally speaking, the certificate is valid within seven days before leaving the country. As long as the animal is brought to the animal hospital recognized by the exit department for examination, the health certificate issued by the veterinarian can be applied for. Dogs are recommended to be vaccinated against canine distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus. The following vaccinations are recommended for cats: feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia.
Moving day
- Give your pets to a friend, babysitter or boarding facility, or keep them in a quiet room. Try not to have them around when the porter packs.
- Check in your pet and sign a declaration at customs.
- Present your pet’s import permit/pet passport at check-in.
